Hello Preschool families,
The students started to notice that the leaves were changing colors and they were falling off the trees. I thought it would be appropriate to teach the kiddos about leaves. Last week, I walked the children through the life cycle of a leaf. I also taught them all the parts of a leaf, including a leaf demonstration that showed the veins in the leaf. The objective was to show that leaves drink water just like us! We put grape juice into a cup with a live leaf overnight. The next day, during circle time we were able to see all the veins in the leaf because they were died purple from the grape juice. The students were very fascinated by the leaves, and how they changed colors.
This week we are going to continue our unit on fall, except we are going to incorporate our 5 senses into it! I have many fun activities planned this week. First, we are going to learn about our 5 senses, and what they are. During circle time the students are going to pass around a pine cone, and explain what they feel. They are also going to perform a taste test, and a hearing test with pop rocks. On our way to the play ground, we are going to be silent and just listen. We then, will go back into the classroom and post on the board everything we heard on our ‘nature walk’. I’m looking forward to another great week!
